I bought this for scooping cookie dough. It's just the right size for that and a lot easier than using a teaspoon. The product I received is genuine high-quality Norpro construction, not some cheap Chinese knock-off. The top reviewer of this product made their purchase over two years ago and received something very different than I did. Don't buy from the vendor they mention. I bought from Amazon.com LLC. I have included pictures of the scoop I received so you can see for yourself.

This product has several design flaws which resulted in my throwing it away. First, the quality of the piece overall is sub-par. I have an older metal scoop in a smaller size, but you can feel how more heavy duty it is compared to this product. The metal is lighter and feels cheaper. Second, at least for the 3 tablespoon, the scraping blade inside the scoop does not go edge-to-edge inside the scoop when squeezing the handle. It only goes a little more than halfway. This is not a "defect" with my shipment - this is the way the scoop is designed. With these two factors combined, when I used the scoop for cookies or baking, by inserted the scoop into the dough then squeezing the handle to remove the ball to put on a baking sheet - it will not work. It gets stuck (very easily), and really can't be used in this way, due to the factors I described above.

I purchased this for cupcake baking and it is perfect for standard size cupcakes. When I first pulled it out of the package and gave the handle a squeeze I was a little concerned my hand would hurt after scooping out a couple dozen. I can gladly say after scooping out 120 cupcakes, NO hand pain!!!

As soon as I opened the package and squeezed the handle a few times to try it out, i could tell this was not going to be as good as I had hoped from all the positive reviews. The metal piece that gets the dough out of the scoop kept getting stuck about 3/4 of the way through its arc. And it wouldnt let go, or reset back to normal position for a long time. And this was withOUT anything in it. Just empty! *see my attached picture* I tried making a batch of oatmeal cookies with it anyway, and it was as I suspected. The scoop didnt drop the cookie dough out 90% of the time, because of that metal piece. Needless to say, I'm returning it. I had debated over buying the Pampered Chef scoop but didnt want to pay the shipping cost for it. Now I guess I'll be doing that anyhow. There must be some decent scoops based on all the positive reviewers but mine certainly wasnt one.

With light use, and way before two years passed, the gear wheel on the operating rod came loose or unwelded from the rod, so the scoop no longer can eject ice cream or dough - the gear just slips around the rod, and has no effect on the moving parts of the scoop.Junk

Perfect size scoop that I needed to portion fillings for making pierogi. I am adding some photos that show how small this is. Smaller even than the other #100 scoops found elsewhere that are the smallest of their line. The scoop is the diameter of an American quarter.

The item I received was not a Norpro 18/10 scoop. I have another Norpro scoop in a different size and this looks nothing like it. It came in a very generic box which stated "Disher Portioner 18-8 stainless steel", not 18/10 as stated on the website. The box also had what looked like Chinese lettering on it. The scoop itself was stamped on the bottom "18-8 S/S CHINA4". There was a small white printed label on the side of the box that said Norpro 18/10, but anyone can print out a label and stick it on a box. The scoop looks very flimsy and cheap next to my real Norpro scoop, and when it came the sliding band part was popped out of the top of the scoop. I fixed it, but I figured it wouldn't last if it already came broken, so I returned it.

We kept this in the drawer for seven years using it maybe twice a year for meatballs or something, and it broke. The weld on the gearing failed which should say it all, but it was bought cheap and handled cheaply, so we didn't really lose anything. However, we still have a use for these things so chose one with beefier gearing at twice the cost...js

Having had this item recommended by America's Test Kitchen, I was truly shocked at the product I received. It is the cheapest construction possible and broke on first use scooping cookie dough. This product is made from stamped steel which can be described at best as "poorly and loosely assembled". It is possibly the crappiest thing I have ever purchased, the articulating portion popping out of place after about 10 scoops of cookie dough. I cannot imagine how it could possibly be used for scooping ice cream. First off the handle is of terrible ergonomic design. If you attempted to scoop anything like ice cream your hand would be very sad very quickly. Secondly, the mechanism that is supposed to free the contents of the scoop is simply a piece of the handle metal bent inwards with teeth cut out and "roll" over a gear that has much too wide of spacing. As it turns out? COUNTERFEIT. See my attached photos of their janky knockoff product.Below I have a link to a review on YouTube which shows the quality of the actual Norpro product. Do not be fooled.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpcUdRk3O0cI could go on but I'm already annoyed that this thing has stolen my time and energy. I have already reported the seller to Amazon Customer Service, but their reporting mechanism doesn't allow for photos, so I thought I'd include them here.
