I had a thick bladed Japanese chef knife. After years of service, the blade had been sharpened so many times, it no longer held sharpness. This New blade seems to sharpen so much easier as it is the same thickness throughout.

OK for the price, better than those regular knife set from a department store but not sure how much better. Blade is OK for veggies, but for meat and fish, it does get dull pretty quickly.Overall OK. I was looking for one made in Japan. I wish they labeled products on Amazon site by product origin. But won't return it.
