As the simple corkscrew that had served me well for decades seemed to have retired unannounced to parts unknown, on Petra Shops "recommendation" I replaced it with this gizmo. At first, I was baffled by the moving parts — there's a spring-loaded pivot on the metal extension the use of which I NEVER would have discovered on my own. Fortunately, the accompanying directions, with explanatory text as well as pictures for the illiterate or those too impatient to read manuals, made it clear that this feature provides the primary fulcrum for the initial pull of the cork. The end of the metal extension is used as a fulcrum for the extraction of the last bit of cork, if necessary. There's a foil cutter, of course — a feature I didn't know I really needed, but one that proves more reliable and safer than my previous habit of using the tip of the screw to cut the foil — as well as a functional bottle opener. All in all, I'm delighted with my purchase and hope — expect, really — that this is the last corkscrew I'll ever own.

A beautiful opener. My preference is the 2-stage type opener and I got this to replace one that has gotten a little dull. This cutter has a nice heft and is comfortable in my hand. The foil cutter seems sharp but I’ve had a little trouble cutting through the foil completely. Maybe operator error. What takes practice is the first stage of opening. It’s a two handed operation, which is where it will take practice, since my previous opener worked with one hand. With this one, insert the corkscrew about 2/3 in, then push the hinged part of the lever (see the directional arrow) to open stage one, lever it up, then use the second stage to complete the cork removal. Sorry if this is confusing! I gave 3 stars for versatility because it doesn’t need to be versatile. 4 stars for overall rating just because it takes a little practice to use, but having to open several bottles....how bad can it be?

This is literally so close to being the perfect wine key, there are just a few "corks" (quirks) I would say make it not the best thing there is. The design is perfect and the craftsmanship is there so don’t be discouraged from buying this product, however the knife to cut the foil is super dull and has small serrations, but the serrations are made in a way where they aren't deep enough to be useful and aren't catching the foil. This makes it a little hard to get the foil off neatly, and occasionally the step to pull the cork out is a little stiff. Overall this is a great product and probably the best wine key I've used as a server, but those little things would make the product absolutely perfect.
