This is a great steamer for the price and it will last a very long time if properly cared for. Well made steamer and this one as most others are hand made so no two are exactly alike. Thick walls and tray bottoms. I use steamer papers to line the bottoms Air fryer papers work well as they are perforated and are less expensive than steamer papers and they make cleanup much easier. After every use of the steamer, clean it. Rinse it out and dry it completely to avoid mold. I turn my oven on to 200 degrees for about 5 minuets, shut it off and then place steamer into oven (pieces separated) until the oven becomes cool. No mold should grow.

This bamboo steamer works really well for me. I place it on top of a stainless steel pot (10 inch) filled with water and the steamer sits on top of it perfectly. I am able to steam a bunch of things like dumplings, wontons, etc. For the liner (so the food does not stick to the bamboo), I place the food on top of lettuce leaves or parchment paper. I can't find anything wrong with it! I see reviews of a few people who complain of a 'smell' - I do NOT smell anything at all. It smells like bamboo to me, which is what this is made out of. Sometimes I find people who complain about a 'smell' are the types who buy a wooden desk and then proceed to complain why the desk smells like wood (just an example). Come on, people, let's not get silly. I use this steamer and it works just fine.

I've read other reviews about the odor that this product gives off. After washing it with soapy hot water, all I can smell is bamboo. Maybe as time goes on the smell will dissipate. Other than that, it's the perfect size for my steaming needs. Also considering how often I'll be using it the price was outstanding. Only other place where I could find one cheaper is if I got one from a thrift store.

Exactly as described and works well. For those needing to prepare a new bamboo steamer before first use, do this: To prepare, scrub with hot, soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Next, submerge in hot water for an hour and rinse. Finally, set it up to steam empty and make sure the basket doesn't touch the boiling water. Steam for 30 minutes and dry overnight.
